Safe payment methods

What payment methods are safe?

There are a number of ways to pay online. Most sellers offer more than one option. Some payment options offer more protection than others, so be sure to select a method of payment that makes you feel comfortable. Before you buy an item, make sure that the seller's payment options will work for you. If you have questions about payment options, you should contact the seller directly.

Important: TradersMatch.com does not recommend cash or cash wire transfers as a payment method. You do not retain any proof of your payment, and will have little to no remedy for transaction problems.

Payment Methods:

Before you buy an item, make sure that the seller's payment options will work for you. Important factors you should consider include:
  • Is it traceable and is there proof of payment?
  • Is the method fast and convenient?
  • How secure is it?
  • What is the liability coverage in case something goes wrong?

If you have additional questions about payment options, you can contact the seller directly.

Common payment methods include:
  • PayPal
  • Credit card
  • Escrow companies (highly recommended for high priced transactions)

The seller may accept other types of payment methods involving escrow companies (recommended for high-price items).

Paying with Pay Pal
  • PayPal is the preferred payment method for many buyers and sellers. PayPal enables you to send payments quickly and securely online using a credit card or bank account. However, you should first check that the seller offers PayPal as a payment method for their listing.
  • When you select PayPal as the payment method, you go to the PayPal site, where you can send your payment. If you do not already have a PayPal account, you can sign up for an account. At PayPal, you can choose how you would like to fund your PayPal payment (for example, using a checking account, credit card, or PayPal balance) and then send the payment. If you use PayPal, the seller may require a credit card billing address registered at PayPal, sometimes called a "confirmed" address.

Advantages
  • Payment is traceable. You can track the status of your payment using your PayPal account.
  • Is immediate and convenient and payment is deposited directly into the seller's account.
  • Does not require you to use your credit card online (you can transfer directly from your bank account).
  • Sellers don't see your credit card number (it is safely encrypted through PayPal's server), which limits the risk of unauthorized use.
  • Offers PayPal Buyer Protection on eligible transactions up to $200 at no additional cost. However, the majority of transactions may be covered up to $2000. See eligibility on PayPal website.

Managing Risk
Paying with Escrow companies TradersMatch.com seeks to minimize trading risk and create a safe trading environment regardless of geographic distance and differences.

To manage risk we highly recommend the use of escrow.com

Buyers should:
  • Review the seller's feedback prior to buying an item.
  • Avoid placing buying from a seller that seems suspicious
  • Use an escrow service.

Sellers should:
  • Require payment receipt before shipping an item.

What You need to know
Use the escrow service if both the seller and the buyer are uncomfortable with the risk exposure.

In addition to the many measures that TradersMatch.com takes to create a safe trading environment, there are two useful services that can help you further manage risk.

Escrow services: An escrow service is a neutral, trusted, third party who acts as an intermediary in a trade in exchange for a fee. The escrow passes payment to the seller and the items to the buyer only if the items and the payment meet expectations. Learn more about how escrow services work.

Prior to using an escrow service, consider the value of the item and the risk exposure compared to the fee the escrow service will charge.
  • Review seller's feedback.
  • Consider the value/nature of the item.
  • Assess risk and, if uncomfortable, conduct the transaction via a third party escrow service.

Dispute resolution services: If a transaction is not completed according to the agreement on the item page, it is critical that buyers and sellers communicate via email to understand the basis of the disagreement. Buyers and sellers should attempt to resolve the issue and complete the transaction. However, if this approach is not successful, dispute resolution services are available. For a fee, these services will help you to resolve the issue.
